The P2P Applications with D-Link 500G Router...

Writer: ZeGXrO

Many users now days know that Router is not meant to be used for P2P purposes, but a lot still don’t know about it… this is because bla bla bla…. Done…

MuHahAHAhah… (EVIL laugh with a background of a flaming firewall)…

Now what just happen... where is the detail about Router and P2P and so on?… well… I cut all of it because some might say “OK… I get it… lets just stop the crap about explaining all of the detail and tell me the program name already…” so there… that explain why… :P…

Below is the list of P2P applications that work best with D-Link 500G and I can sure you that it’s “really work” because I tested the applications one-by-one myself (Trust me I have a massive collection of P2P applications available in my HDD)

BitTorrent
  1. Bitlord v1.1
  2. Bittornado v0.3.7
  3. ABC v3.0.1b or v3.1
  4. Bitcomet v0.57

Note: All of the BitTorrent applications will work well IF your port is been forwarded properly, there is NO easy way around other then Port Forwarding and please don’t miss this part cause its one of the MUST DO LIST and don’t forget to grant access any BitTorrent client or any P2P from your FIREWALL…

Other Network (Fast track, Gnutella and so on)

  1. IML peanut 2 (A Multi-Network client but be careful cause it contain an spyware… but easily deleted with any Anti-Spyware application… recommended using Spybot S&D)
  2. Limewire Basic v4.12.6 or PRO v4.12.6
Ok now when you look at the list above... most of the applications is kind of outdated… well you right… somehow D-Link 500G Router work best with an outdated applications… my guess is that this is because the router is kind of outdated too… hehehe… so “outdated router work best with outdated application”…

Some say that try to update the router firmware will help overcome the problems… yup that might work but sometimes it wont… anyway this router is an outdated router… even D-Link company it self didn’t bother build up the firmware from the beginning... cause I been searching for a new firmware since I first bought the router (that was 3 or 4 years a go) and fail to find any… you can try to search for an “modify firmware”... but I not sure there any modify firmware available for D-Link 500G. If you find any… please be caution and make sure you have read other opinion and review about the “modify firmware” carefully… because you might end up buying a new router because of the firmware…

Therefore, as a conclusion, D-Link 500G will only work best with an outdated application and for BitTorrent client, a proper Port Forwarded is needed to ensure that you get a better download speed. Lastly before I close up the article… there is an setting that might help out a bit for any BitTorrent Client that is:
  1. D-Link 500G will disconnect often if the BitTorrent client use the DHT support… so its be wise to disable any DHT support
  2. Disable NAT/Firewall configuration & Disable UPnP Port Mapping might help cause you don’t need it anymore since you already done the configuration from your router
Note: This article can also help out with other router… it just a matter of trying and testing and the P2P applications list will be updated as soon as the author found any new application available.
